Rainwater Energy Harvesting Using Micro-Turbines in Downpipes

Renewable energy sources are rapidly increasing in demand and importance as governments countries around the globe begin to understand their vital role reducing climate change. This project aimed design create an optimised micro-hydro turbine system for downpipes harness currently untapped potential from rainwater. Experimental methods were used determine magnitude of voltage output available at different rainfall intensities by simulating such flow rates on a hydraulic bench. The viability this power household appliances was then evaluated, assessed, layering turbines single downpipe or placing multiple building. study determined that, during average UK, could produce maximum 7.21 V DC voltage, 50.49 heavy rainfall—enough mobile device charger vacuum cleaner, respectively. Therefore, proves high rainwater harvesting renewable source. It also concluded that positive correlation occurred both number pipes building with whole system.
